FLO: Eco-Friendly Periods

Hello July! This month is all about cutting down our use of single-use plastic. Plastic Free July is an annual global movement challenging people to choose to refuse single-use plastic and go plastic free in July (and beyond!).

The plastic period problem.

Working out how much plastic waste comes from menstrual products is tough. In 2018 alone, people in the U.S. bought 5.8 billion tampons, and over the course of a lifetime, a women could use between 5 and 15 thousand pads and tampons, the vast majority of which will wind up in landfills as plastic waste. This causes catastrophic environment problems, not just for us now but for generations to come.

At Thought, respecting the planet through sustainable, thoughtful living is part of our DNA. We want to collaborate with brands that share our commitment to producing eco-friendly, sustainable products.

Welcome FLO.

FLO are all about brilliantly organic femcare, making them a natural partner for our new Thought Living collection.

FLO are brave and bold when they talk about periods. They aim to empower women and girls to say goodbye to the shame and embarrassment so often associated with this subject. Instead, they are ambassadors for teaching women of all ages to be kind to themselves and the environment. FLO believe that what we put in our bodies should be as natural as possible and not horrible for the planet.

NATURAL AND ORGANIC. 100% organic cotton tampons and organically-grown bamboo pads.

Unlike traditional femcare, FLO products have no nasties like chlorine or dioxin bleaches, rayon or viscose fibres that can shed and stick inside you and no fragrances, dyes or allergens of any kind.

CONCIOUS COMFORT.100% BPA-free silky-smooth (and recyclable) applicator and biodegradable pad wrappers.

FLO source bamboo that is edge grown (meaning it doesn’t replace food crops), and it’s certified by Oeko-Tex and Ecocert. Oeko-Tex deals with how the bamboo is processed, while Ecocert is organic certification and therefore regulates how the bamboo is grown. To attain Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, the fibre has been tested and certified to be free from harmful levels of more than 100 substances known to be harmful to human health. Plus FLO is PETA-Certified vegan and cruelty-free.

GIRL POWER. 100% committed to supporting girls' health, education and economic empowerment.

Each FLO pack helps give back. 5% of their profits go to girls in need through brilliant charities like Orchid Project, who work to end FGM. FLO also provide free menstrual products to UK asylum centres and food banks via UK organisations like Bloody Good Period and Red Box Project.
