Make your own foot scrub

With the warmer-weather upon us, now is the perfect time to prep your feet for the open-toe season ahead., now is the perfect time to prep your feet for the open-toe season ahead.

If you normally treat yourself to summer pedicure, then this is your chance to try your hand at home. It's super easy to make and inexpensive too and they all use everyday ingredients and can be kept for future use in an old jam or Kilner jar.

All three recipes will help remove dead skin, soothe tired soles and soften your feet; as well as leaving them smelling wonderfully fresh.

Lemon and Sugar Foot Scrub

What you need:

8 tbsp white sugar 1 tbsp olive oil 1 lemon A mixing bowl A grater Jar for storage

Method:

1. In a mixing bowl, add your olive oil.

2. Squeeze in the juice from half of the lemon.

3. Gradually spoon in your white sugar and mix together until you have your preferred scrub consistency.

4. Grate the lemon and mix the lemon zest into the scrub.

5. Mix well and store in a jam or Kilner jar.

6. To use, scoop up the scrub with your fingers and massage into your feet to exfoliate and refresh. Rinse thoroughly, pat dry, and finish with rubbing in some moisturiser.

Coconut, Lime and Sea Salt Foot Scrub

What you need:

1 tbsp coconut oil 5 tsps coarse sea salt 1 tbsp olive oil 1 lime A mixing bowl A grater Jar for storage

Method:

1. In a mixing bowl, combine your coconut and olive oil.

2. Drizzle in the juice of half a lime.

3. Slowly mix in the sea salt (add more or less, depending how coarse you want the scrub).

4. Add in the zest of 1 lime, mix well and store in a glass jar.

5. To use, sit on the edge of your bathtub or in a chair with your feet in a large bowl. Rub the mixture into your feet, scrubbing well, making sure to concentrate the heels and soles of your feet.

6. Relax for a few minutes, rinse with warm water and then pat dry.

7. Store any leftover scrub in the fridge – it’ll keep for up to two weeks.

Try these scrubs at the end of a long day, right before bed. For an extra nourishing treat, I like to finish by moisturising my feet with some coconut oil and popping on a pair of our cosy bamboo socks.
